Be Gone for a while!

Hi,  will be gone for a bit,  have alot of family stuff happening right now....
family stuff, funeral, I need to take time to focus on family and getting caught up.
It may be a few weeks before I post again. 

Calico Beans

~~~a family favourite of my friend, Yolonda, she's from Iowa, but lives in Canada now!

Ingredients:

• 1 pkg of bacon
• 1 pound lean ground beef
• 1 cup chopped onion
• 2 cans pork and beans (we use Maple beans)
• 1 can lima beans, drained
• 1 can kidney beans, drained
• 1 can butter beans, drained

our family doubles the sauce recipe, as we love it and we have a large crock pot~

• 1/2 cup ketchup
• 1 tsp. salt
• 1 tbsp. vinegar
• 1 tbsp. dry mustard
• 1/2 cup brown sugar

Preparation:

Brown bacon, ground beef, and chopped onions. Combine drained ground beef mixture in slow cooker with remaining ingredients; cover and cook on LOW for 3 to 5 hours.

Kijiji Days at our place.

Been a busy two days, found so much spring cleaning, that we did Kijiji, and the calls started at 8am & went till 8:30 tonight but lots of stuff found beautiful new homes.  We are so pleased, we can almost park in the garage.  LOL   Hubbies goal!  Not too much left!  ha ha just give me more time to spring clean!then we shall see. I hope to see $$ signs in my sleep!

We had been saving pennies for years and what with them planning on phasing out pennies.   We rambled thru the house, packed them.....heavier than what the airlines allow now for baggage... LOL  well prob not that heavy....  took it to the money machine for counting.... $600.00, and with the % they take we got a nice \\\\\\\\\\\\\$574. think hubby said....  Happy faces all around!  So 2 good $ related things have happened.....whats the saying,..... "things come in 3's".... I AM WAITING  for NUMBER 3,  I could do with something special these days! most grateful :)

Found an interesting Website this evening called GOODSMITHS, which seemd very exciting.  I  will
have to research, and see how it all works,  but I am pretty enthusiastic about it.  It seems to be completely all handcrafted items and such great creations I found.  Just what everyone wants is handmade in America or Canada.   Well thats the stuff I like.!

Honey Mustard Chicken

Honey-Mustard Chicken

1/3 cup Dijon Mustard
1/3 cup Honey
2 tbsp. fresh dill OR 1 tbsp. dried dill
1 tsp. fresh grated orange peel
1/4 tsp pepper
about 2 1/2 lb. chicken pieces

The sauce can be made ahead & keeps in fridge 1 week.

Preheat oven to 400'F.   Prepare sauce.  Line a baking sheet with foil.   Place chicken skin side down if you leave the skin on.  Brush sauce over chicken, basting with more sauce every 7 - 10 min....
Bake until juices run clear when you poke the thickest part of chicken.  about 30 - 40 min.

Serve with rice, and either green beans or baby carrots!  Salad on the side!
We like the rice with a wild rice mix.

Spring Cleaning!

Oh, someone please come help me..... The spring cleaning is getting the best of me... Hope to be done with it soon!

Had a lovely Mother's Day dinner, worked a bit more on both the afghans I have on the go!

I will post another recipe on Thursday, so please pop back....  a family favourite recipe, yum!!

Mom's Almond Crescents

I am happy to share Thursdays Recipe.  It has been a family favourite of ours for years!  This is actually one of the recipes I plan include if I ever get that recipe book of mine written!

MOM'S  ALMOND  CRESCENTS

1 cup Butter
1 tsp. Almond Extract
1/2 cup Icing Sugar
(extra icing sugar is needed for the end procedure)
1 tbsp. water
2 1/2 cups flour
1 cup finely chopped almonds

Cream butter, add almond extract, 1/2 cup icing sugar,
water and mix well, next add flour, and lastly chopped almonds.
Chill the dough for thirty minutes.  Shape into crescents!
We usually make ours a 1" shaped crescent.

Bake 300' for 18 minutes or until lightly browned.
While still hot, roll in icing sugar, place on wax paper till cooled.

Busy Day!

So I got a bit behind yesterday.... thats me ...Planning too much!   Today is a catch up day with listing, then its off sorting Mom's things......I am looking to the "Fellow upstairs", to give me strength! I know I will feel better once this task is complete and I make it thru this week.  I knew the first Mothers Day would be hard! I miss you so much "Mom"!

I decided after looking at so many blogs last nite, that Thursday will be my day for posting a fav recipe....I shall try to keep up that Thursday committment!  Why Thursday... well, so you can go shopping for ingredients on Friday, and make it for your family on the weekend.   : )

Our morning Walk!

Heres a few pictures from our morning stroll in the forest! The air was so fresh, you could hear the river flowing, and we saw a few squirrels, but they were too fast for me... LOL

Getting excited!

Yeah!!!  We are going to the mountains tomorrow, and actually got my camera working so thats exciting considering we tried everything in the book.....  LOL  but format the card, and now it works...

Hoping the rain lets up a bit and we get no more bouts of snow..................the snow flakes kept peeking in today!

                     Thankfully, it did not stick around!!!

Cloudy, soon to be Rainy Day!

Well,  the farmers do need some rain, and it will make our lawns green,  so I am thankful for that.  Just hope my fibro does not flare up. 
Hubby is getting me a new card for my camera today and hopefully that will solve the not being able to take pictures part of my life.   I miss my camera!!!

Our wonderful neighbors, have so kindly offered us to stay at their condo at the mountains till Saturday, and I really need a change, so very much looking forward to the fresh air and wonderful scenery! I hope to be able to take lots of pictures!!!

Planning on re-opening up one of my Etsy shops this week!  Look for new things in Paper2Roses!

Weekend News!

Where has the time gone.  I have new pictures to post as soon as we get my camera in working order.  Not sure what the problem is, but it keeps saying "No Memory Card" when there is one.  GRRRR!

As well as working on my latest afghan, I have been busy finishing up Estate stuff, which has been very stressful. When all those details are finalized, I will be opening my Paper2Roses Etsy shop!  Hope you all have a great weekend with fantastic things going on in your lives.

My Thoughts 'MINI' Journalling Set!

Sharing with you a lil' set of mini journalling books set inside a handmade folder case!  These were a gift so the mom could thru-out daily life events journal to each member of her family her precious thoughts!  With this project I used GCD Studios, Melody Rose Designer Collection.  Just beautiful linen textured papers, some with lacquer & flocked.  So fun to use!  You need to try them, let your imagination go!

I have 3 more set of these on the make, all in different themes, that will be listed on MY Paper2Roses Shop on Etsy in May!

Snow Again, LOL!

We are in a lil' Mini Blizzard, and it is starting to look so pretty outside.  The branches are laiden with heavy wet snow.  But blink, wait a day or two and it shall be gone!  We went to a favourite lil' restaurant called "Sea" today and had a lovely Fish & Chip Lunch.  It will be nice to stay in and craft the next few days.  Sharing some late afternoon pictures!

Our Easter!

Hope everyone had a Wonderful Easter with your loved ones.  We had a lovely dinner Friday with our good neighbors, that made the day so nice for us.  A wonderful dinner, great company, and a few good memories were shared!  We did miss you Mom!  We are so greatful for our friends that have become our family!!! They make hard times, easier!

Saturday was hubbys birthday, and we went to our daughter and son in laws for another great dinner.  The ham was just awesome as were all the fixings.  The birthday cake had a mountain of heart sprinkles, compliments of our little one who helped in the decorating!  It was all very nice!

Sunday was a day spent at home, sharing some family time.  With hubby pushing me to get scrappin' again, I even got a new mini started!  Pictures to follow soon.  I hope everyone has a great week!

Ah!  The snow won't last!!!

We have been gradually getting back into normal daily routines.
I spend a few hours each day crocheting, (find it relaxing) and have worked a bit more on my latest pillow.  Here is how it is coming along!
I also hope to be able to open my Etsy shops by late April!

Some Sneak Peeks

at a Lil' Something I been working on! I saw something similar in a magazine years ago. Also, years ago I created many......... all with different "Themes" I am just loving how this creations is flowing together! Many crochet stitches are used, single, double, treble, chain, all the while creating, adding on to, with a vision in mind of what I wanted the out come to be. I am very pleased to be able to share this with you. I will be only making 4 of these this year, as they are very time consuming as I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist! I hope you enjoy!

Quite a while ago, we sent a request for a flag that was actually flown in Parliment......Well it arrived, & I may say..... It is So Much LARGER than we thought.   LOL  It fills the whole room!!!  Just had to share.  We Love Canada!

Latest Little Beanie!

My latest little Beanie! ~~finished off with a pink and white flower crocheted with a double stand of WW yarn. Nice to keep warm on those cooler days we have been having!  I hope to make some for my Etsy Shop!

Snowy Sunday!

Well, we did not get the snow predicted, but its a wintery white outside.  Nice to stay indoors today! Hope everyone is having a Great & Memorable Day!
Here are some new twin size blankets and hats soon to be gifted to a friend, who has two beautiful little girls.  I hope they enjoy them.  I am working on some other beanies that I will post later.

What a Week!

Amazing, Unforgettable, One of those moments happened this week.  I consider myself extremely blessed and so very fortunate.  I was the Brinkhaus Valentines winner on XL103.   I was speechless!  It was one of those things that happen in your life, and you just keep blinking, (a little shaking, too) and you think, "is this really happening.  Yes, that was me, a little speechless!  I can't wait to have a shopping spree for some "Lovlies" 

What a "Special" thing to happen after we have gone thru such a trying few months.  I have been dragging a bit, just so stressed and tired from the hospital situation..... so this definitly sparkled my week, and brought a smiled to my face. 

My daughter is doing better after her recent surgery, my mom continues to try and get stronger, but some days do not go as well as others..  We took one day off this week, to take down the tree....LOL  yes a little late, but hospital days take presidence. Oh and we ended up taking our son to emergency for chest pains, but thankful it was strained muscles and not his heart.  The prescription is helping him.

I hope to post photos of some lil'creations later this weekend!  Just very tired from the hospital right now.......

Hoping to get back to Blogging Daily!. . . . . . . s00n!

Hi, Hope everyones year is starting off great with some fantastic things happening.

Our first month has been a crazy busy month with spending all days at the hospital with mom. We are learning all sorts of new things and understanding how we can best help an elderly parent. Its been a long 5 weeks, (not missed a single day & we go in the morning, returning in the evening) but I hope in the next 2 - 3 weeks to be able to re-open both my ETSY shops.  I miss that part of my life incredibly, but our daily activities right now are filled with companionship, finding what services are availible to us, and working together with OT and Physical Therapy, waiting for re-hab.  Thursday the 9th will be a crazy day as our daughter is having surgery. Of course at a "different" hospital, just to keep us on our toes.....   Then Friday February 10, Ken & I celebrate our 39th wedding anniversary!  We wanted to pick the 14th, but it did not fall on a Saturday. Where does the time go!
Until I have more time to post,  I will try to occasionally give sneak peaks at some of my latests creations.  Any idle time I'm working on new lil' creations.  I hope this finds you all doing well! I will post more pictures next weekend! Hugs, Maureen
